Ngā Ruma Tamariki

Our tamariki rooms – nurturing spaces where learning, language and culture come alive every day.

🌱

Kākano The Seed Room – Ages 0 to 2

Kākano means seed — our youngest tamariki are precious seeds, full of potential, nurtured with the warmth and care they need to grow. In the Kākano room, our kaiako provide a safe, loving, and stimulating environment that celebrates the uniqueness of each child.

Our programme is centred on building strong, trusting relationships through responsive caregiving, waiata, karakia, and play. Te reo Māori is woven into every moment of the day, laying the foundations of language and cultural identity from the very beginning.

Age group: 0 – 2 years

Pihi The Sprout Room – Ages 2 to 3

Pihi means to sprout — our tamariki in this room are beginning to find their voices, their curiosity, and their confidence. The Pihi room is a vibrant, active space where children are encouraged to explore, create, and connect through play-based learning.

Our kaiako guide each child's growing independence, using te reo Māori as the medium of communication, instruction, and song. Cultural practices including karakia, mihimihi, and waiata are central to daily routines, giving tamariki a strong sense of identity and belonging.

Age group: 2 – 3 years

🌸

Puawai The Blossom Room – Ages 3 to 5

Puawai means to blossom — our older tamariki are flourishing, ready to take on new challenges, lead, and inspire their peers. The Puawai room prepares tamariki for their transition to school with a rich curriculum delivered entirely in te reo Māori.

Learning is holistic and child-led, incorporating art, music, physical activity, storytelling, tikanga Māori, and literacy. Our kaiako work closely with whānau to ensure every child blossoms to their full potential — confident in who they are, where they come from, and where they are going.
